As per Article V of the Constitution and Bylaws of the Alabama Emergency Response Team, on Tuesday, May 9 at 7:00PM, the meeting was called to order for an election for ALERT officers.
Please help us welcome this year’s new officers, who will take office as/of July 2017!
- Secretary, Public Information
Justin Glass, N0ZO
Justin has been our secretary for two terms so far, and has taken on the project of bringing that into the electronic world on the ALERT Members Sharepoint site. He has brought with him technical experience, and was instrumental in our work to re-organize today’s ALERT website content a couple of years ago.
- Treasurer
Bill Rodgers, K4FSO
Bill is a systems engineer at a healthcare company in Birmingham. If you know Bill, he has been one of the most active ham radio operators in our area, supporting a variety of events in the community with different radio clubs and organizations.
- NWS Liaison, K4NWS Trustee
Russell Thomas, KV4S
Russell is a Sr. IT Analyst, and has been NWS liaison for a while. He has done a great job at coordinating ALERT response when NWS calls upon us. Previously, he moved the old HTML site to a more advanced WP framework, and currently serves ALERT as one of our Office365 admins.
- Vice President, Operations
Lloyd Palmer, N4GHP
Lloyd is a security supervisor and hazmat response coordinator at one of our local hospitals, with almost 30 years of Fire/EMS experience. Lloyd brings with him a focus on NTS (National Traffic System), and emergency communications.
- President, Interim Training
Casey Benefield, NZ2O
Casey is a reporting analyst for a contact center/technology company, with some business analysis/process work mixed in. Casey is an all around nerd with a passion for 3D printing, computing, weather, and marketing ham radio and ALERT to the public.
Everyone,
I want to give a special thanks to John De Block, Ronnie King, Dale Chambers, Roger Parsons, and Johnnie Knobloch, who served as ALERT officers for the previous year. These men served as mentors to me, in some way or another, and has given to Alabama and their local community in more ways than I know.
- Roger was VP for a portion of the previous year, and was elected to a position with the ARRL as Assistant Section Manager for Alabama, and continues to bring amazing results for emergency communications.
- Johnnie has been treasurer for quite a while, for several of our amateur radio organizations in the area, and does that quite well. He is quite active with ARES and has done a good work with the amateur radio community, and his work at UAB.
- Dale was President for the previous year, and works with Civil Air Patrol, printing. I look forward to continuing to work with you, going into this year. Dale worked with us/provided the “let’s go” to take a different approach to promoting ALERT.
- Ronnie was acting VP and President (I think), and he is hard to keep track of! He works with Birmingport Fire, and any time I’ve ever seen him, he’s contributing to his community. He was a significant part of two recent successes for ALERT. There was spotter training at the BJCC, and a Tornado Safety Night event at Regions field. At both events, viewed by thousands, James Spann put a huge plug out there for amateur radio.
- John is the Birmingham’s NWS WCM, and Meteorologist in Charge. His mentoring was a great help to me this year. He also played a role in getting us back into Skywarn Recognition Day, as well as having put us in contact with some of the local outreach events – like the Tornado Safety Night.
I am humbled and fortunate to be able to work with this amazing talent, and look forward to the coming ALERT year. Once appointed officers are chosen, we will also make an introduction there as well. Thank you all, for your contributions in helping Alabama be prepared.
Casey, NZ2O
