…NWS BIRMINGHAM ADDS TWITTER FOR REPORTING STORM DAMAGE…
EFFECTIVE TODAY…NWS BIRMINGHAM IS OFFICIALLY TWEETING. FOR ALL THE PARTICULARS…PLEASE VISIT OUR NEW TWITTER WEB PAGE AT:
BY FOLLOWING OUR HANDLE @NWSBIRMINGHAM ON TWITTER…FOLLOWERS WILL BE ABLE TO GET ALL OF THE SEVERE WEATHER PRODUCTS WE ISSUE…
INCLUDING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS…TORNADO WARNINGS…AND FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS. NOT ONLY THAT…FOLKS WILL GET A TWITTER PIC OF THE ACTUAL WARNING POLYGON!
WITH REGARDS TO SUBMITTING STORM REPORTS ON TWITTER..WE WOULD LIKE TO ENCOURAGE THE USE OF GEOTAGGING STORM REPORTS WHEN USING EXISTING HASHTAGS SUCH AS #ALWX. WE REALIZE THAT MANY FOLKS ARE CONSCIOUS ABOUT POSTING THEIR LOCATIONS FOR PRIVACY CONCERNS…BUT WHEN IT COMES TO STORM REPORTS…THE ACCURACY THAT GEOTAGGING OFFERS IS A VAST IMPROVEMENT OVER SOMEONE TWEETING THEY HAVE LARGE HAIL IN HOOVER. ENABLING GEOTAGGING DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY POST YOUR LOCATION WITH EVERY TWEET…BUT IT GIVES YOU THE OPTION TO PROVIDE YOUR LOCATION WHEN YOU DECIDE TO. GEOTAGGED REPORTS HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO HELP WITH THE WARNING PROCESS FOR THE COMMUNITY!
WE ARE EXCITED TO BE EXPANDING OUR PRESENCE IN SOCIAL MEDIA.
