Hello everyone. What with all of the hype and choice of words by commercial
meteorologists, I thought that I would send out what the NWS is actually
saying about the forecast at this time.

This was post several minutes ago on facebook:

All right everyone, let us give you a recap on everything that we updated
today, and changes to the forecast for tonight through midnight Wednesday
night. Precipitaition will increase once again across the state tonight,
and will likely produce a mix of freezing rain and sleet across our
northern counties, anywhere along and north of a line from Millport,
Cordova, Gardendale, Sylacauga, and Lafayette. Up to one tenth of an inch
of ice will be possible in this area from 9pm tonight through 7am Wednesday
morning.

Going into Wednesday morning from 7am to noon, the wintry mix will continue
to be possible in the same general areas across the north, with up to an
additional one quarter inch of ice accumulations. If two tenths of an inch
of ice accumulates, we could be looking at very hazardous driving
conditions and sporadic power outages for those northern locations. After
noon Wednesday, as a very strong area of low pressure spins up along the
gulf coast, we'll see colder air pulled down from the north, which will
transition the wintry precip to all snow for a good chunk of Central
Alabama Wednesday afternoon through midnight Wednesday night.

We could be talking about very significant snowfall accumulations,
especially the farther north and east you go, perhaps over 5 inches in our
northeast counties. NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE for what looks to be even
greater impacts from this very dangerous winter storm. The snowfall amounts
that are forecast will be on top of what already fell this morning across
our northern counties. Needless to say, if those heavy snowfall amounts
occur, travel will be almost impossible. Check out the graphics within this
post that line up with our current forecasts. Also, be sure to take into
account that this could be a very rapidly developing weather situation that
can change on a dime. If you live near the areas of snow or ice depicted,
you need to prepare for winter weather, even if your county is not listed
in a current Winter Weather Advisory or Winter Storm Warning. This could be
the most significant winter storm we've seen in quite a while, so please
don't let your guard down! As always, check back often for the latest!

*WINTER STORM WARNING* Now in effect for Blount, Calhoun, Clay, Cherokee,
Cleburne, Etowah, Jefferson, Marion, Randolph, St. Clair, Shelby,
Talladega, Walker and Winston Counties.

*WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY* Now in effect for Bibb, Chambers, Chilton, Coosa,
Fayette, Lamar, Tallapoosa, and Tuscaloosa Counties.
